Christopher P. Parr, of Clarksville, senior vice president and principal of Financial Advantage Inc., in Columbia, has been named a recommended advisor by Wealth Management Exchange, a selective Web site that offers advice from America's leading experts on investments and estate planning. Parr is the first advisor in Maryland to be named to the list.

Dr. Artin A. Shoukas, a Howard County resident, has been reappointed as an associate team leader for the Cardiovascular Alterations Team of the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, in Houston. Shoukas, a professor of biomedical engineering, physiology, and anesthesia and critical-care medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, is entering his third term.

Howard County has been honored by Forbes magazine as one of America's "Best Places to Raise a Family," in the June 30 edition of the publication. Howard is the only Maryland county to receive this honor.

Harvey Tegeler, co-owner of Interstate Financial Services Inc. in Westminster, is the recipient of the John Hancock Financial Dan Coates Memorial Award for the fourth consecutive year. Tegeler, who serves as professional development chair for NAIFA, is an independent adviser who specializes in retirement planning, estate preservation as well as other individual and group wealth acquisition and preservation strategies.

State Farm has awarded Neighbor Ride, a volunteer-based nonprofit in Howard County, $2,5000 through State Farm's Good Neighbor Citizenship Grant Program.
