Howard Community College has announced an alliance with San Francisco-based New Ventures West, a training organization in the business and personal coaching. The college's business and computer systems division is currently the only community college in the mid-Atlantic region to offer degree options in professional coaching.

Tecore Networks, a provider of multi-protocol mobile networks, in Columbia, has announced that its Military Secured Rapid Deployment System has participated in and met the requirements of the annual Department of Defense Interoperability Communications Exercise.

The Verizon Foundation has awarded a $30,000 grant to the Domestic Violence Center of Howard County, in Columbia, to better assist victims, create greater awareness and help end domestic violence.

Attorney Steven Lewicky has joined the Columbia-based law firm of David, Agnor, Rapaport & Skalny. Representing individuals, businesses and associations, he practices primarily in the business, transactional and commercial litigation practice groups.

Rocco Ricci has joined Howard Bank as vice president and the manager of the commercial loan department.

J.C. Daughaday has been named employee of the year by The Arc of Howard County. He serves as a job coach, supporting people with developmental disabilities who are working in the community. Daughaday was cited for his commitment to people with cognitive and developmental disabilities, and for his success at meeting the needs of local employers. He is also a spokesman for The Arc's employment services.

Beth Shalom Congregation, in Columbia, has appointed Dr. Ziva Giliya as the new youth education director. Formerly of Israel and most recently, Elmira, N.Y., Giliya brings years of teaching and administrative experience from her time spent teaching elementary and high school students in Israel and New York, as well as an educational director of a religious school in Elmira.

The Maryland Space Business Roundtable has given $1,000 to The Women's Giving Circle of Howard County to support the second annual Girl Power Career Expo to introduce middle and high school girls to professional opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math. The 2009 career expo will be held March 1 at the Kossiakoff Center at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory.
