Born Dec. 11, 1928, in New York City, to Michael and Susan Kilmartin, she graduated from Cathedral High School, in New York City.
Beginning in the late 1940s, after graduating from Wood Secretarial School, in Manhattan, she worked as a secretary for IBM, in New York, as well as several other companies.
She married Edmund R. Taylor in 1954.
After living in New Rochelle, N.Y. with her husband, and later, in Pocantico Hills, N.Y., with her daughter, Mrs. Taylor and her husband moved to Ellicott City in 1996 to be closer to their grandchildren.
Family members recall that Mrs. Taylor volunteered at the Church of the Magdalene in Pocantico Hills, N.Y., where she served with the ladies guild and in other capacities for 30 years. She served as a Brownies and Junior Girl Scout troop leader for five years in Pocantico Hills, beginning in 1967. She continued to support the Girl Scouts and was a lifelong member.
She also worked as a secretary in the athletic department of Pace University in Pleasantville, N.Y. for nine years. While there, she took literature and English courses for three years while in pursuit of an associate's degree.
In 2002, Mrs. Taylor relocated to Fairhaven Retirement Community, in Sykesville. There, she served on the entertainment committee and continued to pursue her passion for crafts by coaching craft activities, working on quilt projects, overseeing surplus sales in the craft room, sewing, mending and other craft projects, including dry floral arrangements and decorating Christmas wreaths and trees. She also coproduced the talent shows with a friend.
She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Edmund R. Taylor, who died in 2002; and eight siblings.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by a daughter and a son-in-law, Patty and Tony Salazar, of Ellicott City; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Kilmartin, of Michigan; three grandchildren, Rebecca Salazar, Paul Salazar and Ben Salazar, all of Ellicott City; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial Mass was said Aug. 2, 2008, at the Fairhaven Chapel at Fairhaven Retirement Community, in Sykesville. A reception followed.
Internment will be held at the Monticello Graveyard, in Charlottesville, Va., at a later date.
