Auditions, registrations, sign-ups and try-outs fill our days. Modern life rarely follows a cycle of seed-time and harvest. The calendar cycle from January to December holds sway in many areas. But, the school calendar creates a surprisingly powerful cycle affecting not only children and young people, but adult-only schedules as well. It's that time again. Soon the new school year will begin.

Turner, Dean of Magic will be the featured entertainer at River Hill shopping center Friday, Aug. 15, 6-8 p.m. This is part of the free summer Courtyard Concert Series. Dean Turner holds an audience of young and old spellbound in a humorous fashion. You'll be amazed, baffled and definitely entertained. All are welcome to attend.

The Taters are scheduled to wrap up the Courtyard Concert Series at River Hill Aug. 22.

Before summer ends, Clark's Elioak Farm is hosting a giant fling. The 53rd Birthday Party Celebration for Enchanted Forest is this weekend. Once upon a time, were you employed in the land of "Once upon a time,..."? As part of the celebration, the first Enchanted Forest Employees Reunion Saturday, Aug. 9, 1-4 p.m.

For those of you new to this area, Enchanted Forest operated for almost 35 years as a children's amusement park on Route 40 near Centennial Lane. Its former employees have scattered all over the county and the country by this time, but many are still in the area.

Many pieces from the Enchanted Forest are delighting today's children and adults who cherish childhood memories at Clark's Elioak Farm on Route 108 near Centennial Lane. You are invited to come to the farm.

Auditions, auditions. Neighbor Allison Matusky, piano accompanist and vocalist with Columbia Pro Cantare Chorus, is eager to see more of her neighbors as members of the CPC Chorus. Auditions for all parts -- chorus, soloists and orchestra -- are in progress. Regular rehearsals begin Sept. 2 and are held every Tuesday at Hammond High School in Columbia from 7:30-10 p.m.

Columbia Pro Cantare Chorus will proudly begin its 32nd year with a Silent Auction and "exuberant and sublime choral favorite Carmina Burana, joined by full orchestra, children's chorus and outstanding soloists" on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Jim Rouse Theatre, at Wilde Lake High School, in Columbia. The Silent Auction begins at 6 p.m. and is followed by the concert at 8 p.m. Ticket information is on the Website.

Jennifer Blizzard Sisk sends word that Footprints/Blizzard Dance Studio in Glenelg is celebrating 15 years of excellence in the Howard County area. Registration is now open for ballet, tap, hip-hop, jazz and modern dance classes for beginners and advanced students. Advanced classes require an audition. There is also a Yoga/Pilates class on Saturday mornings. For more information, call 410-992-8105.

You'll find plenty of programs, classes and trips scheduled for all ages through the Department of Parks and Recreation. Registration is now open.
