PSAT and SAT prep classes> Beginning in September SAT and PSAT prep classes will be held at Centennial High School taught by Marion McCain. Two sessions. Ten classes each. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays. 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. or 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dates: Sept. 2, 4, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23, 25 and Oct. 2, 7. Cost is $395. Applications are available at Centennial High, 4300 Centennial Lane. County-wide Howard County Public School System students will take the PSAT Oct. 15. Sophomores take the practice PSAT. Art for homeschoolers> KidzArtMD will be offering the homeschool community classes starting in September at two locations. Parental option form> The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act authorizes local school systems to disclose certain information from the education records of a student. This information is designated as directory information and includes basic biographical information only. It does not include student grades, test results, or any part of academic or discipline records. Parents who wish to restrict the release of one or more of these categories of information related to their child(ren), must complete and sign the Annual Parental Option Form that each child will bring home during the first week of school. Based on categories designated by the federal government, the Howard County Public School System defines the following student data as directory information: student name; address; telephone number; date of birth; major field of study;

participation in school activities; weight and/or height of athletes; dates of school attendance; degrees/awards, and

previous education institutions attended. In accordance with state law, the Howard County Public School System will not release a student's home address or phone number to any person or organization other than the following: An organization of parents, teachers, students, or former students, or any combination of those groups, of the school (i.e.: PTA/PTSA, booster club, class reunion committee, etc.); an organization or force of the military (i.e. military recruiters, etc.); a representative of a community college in the state; or representative of the Maryland Higher Education Commission. College News

Catherine Barker and Caitlyn Carrico of Ellicott City were named to the spring 2008 dean's list at American University.

Ryan Cherniak, of Woodbine, a junior majoring in mechanical engineering at the University of Rochester, has been named to the dean's list for academic achievement for the spring 2008 semester.

Caren Brogli, of Ellicott City, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology from the University of Mary Washington May 10.

The following students from Ellicott City were named to dean's list for the 2008 spring semester at McDaniel College: Emily Biondo, Daniel Bryden, Laura Kim, Katelyn Raab and Kristen Warfield.

Sara Groveman, of Marriottsville, was also named to the 2008 dean's list.

Natalie Tier was named to the dean's list for the 2008 spring semester at Messiah College.
