Assist our Kids, a local mentoring and tutoring program, is seeking volunteers to assist students at three county schools during the upcoming school year.

The program, which also goes by the moniker "A-OK," pairs adult volunteers with students from Longfellow Elementary, Phelps Luck Elementary and Oakland Mills Middle schools, in Columbia.

The program is aimed at students who need academic or social help, said Joe Willmott, a program founder.

Volunteers work with one student for an entire academic year for about one to two hours a week. Volunteers do not need any special skills, and will undergo a few hours of training, Willmott said.

For more information, call Chaya Kaplan at 410-730-6030 or Joe Willmott at 410-730-0229.
