G. William Floyd
G. William “Bill” Floyd, of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, formerly of Columbia, died July 24, 2008, of congestive heart failure, at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Fort Worth, Texas. He was 77.

Born May 30, 1931, in Forth Worth, to Gallant W. and Mary J. Floyd, he grew up in Tyler, Texas and graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Tyler  in 1948.

He married Myrna D. Widdifield in 1956.

In the 1950s, Mr. Floyd enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While based in San Antonio, he served as a drill instructor. He was discharged after four years of service.

In 1957, he graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering.
Mr. Floyd moved to Columbia in 1969 and worked as a commercial developer for the Rouse Co. for two years, prior to beginning his own commercial real estate developing company, called Venture Associates in 1968 in Washington, D.C. The company will be operated by family and his remaining partners.  

He was a member of the board of the Howard County Hospital, the board of the Linwood Center and the board of directors of Columbia Bank. In addition, he served as president for two local Howard County Rotary clubs, one of which that he served as a charter member.

Family members recall that Mr. Floyd was a private pilot who enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, and spending time with his family. He is remembered for his adventurous spirit.

He was predeceased by his parents, Gallant W. and Mary J. Floyd.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, Myrna Floyd, Mr. Floyd is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, G. Walter and Kristi Townsend Floyd, of Fort Worth; a brother-in-law, William Cotton, of Clovis, N.M.; three nieces and two nephews, Pam and Buddie Dunn, of Moriarty, N.M., Leah and Douglas Cotton, of Clovis and Terry Cotton of Ruidoso, N.M.; three great-nieces and three great-nephews, Kelsi and Luther Dunlap, of Coleman, Texas, Kayla Dunn, of Moriarty and Cassandra Cotton, of Clovis, Justin Cotton, of Ruidoso and Brandon Cotton, of Ruidoso; a cousin, John Glenn; and two grandchildren, G. Walker Floyd and Lucas T. Floyd, both of Fort Worth.

Funeral services are slated for Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, 11 a.m., at the Church At Horseshoe Bay, 600 Hi Ridge Drive, Horseshoe Bay, Texas.

Memorial donations may be made to charity of choice.
