Kathleen D. Harper
Kathleen
D. Harper, of Columbia, formerly of Winchester, Va., died July 26,
2008, of pneumonia, at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis. She
was 84.
Born Nov. 14, 1923, in Hunt County, Texas, to Frank
and Geraldine Deskins, she graduated from high school in Hunt County in
1941.
She attended Davis and Elkins College, in West Virginia.
She married Woodrow Harper Sr. in 1944.
Mrs.
Harper worked as a kindergarten teacher for Market Street United
Methodist Church, in Winchester, for 25 years. She retired in 1978 and
relocated to Columbia.
She was a member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester.
She was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Woodrow Harper Sr., who died in 1971; a brother,
Rufus Deskins, of Springtown, Texas and a grandson, Anthony Vardaro, of Suffolk, Va.
Mrs.
Harper is survived by a son, Woodrow Harper Jr., of Stevensville; two
daughters, Klema H. Vardaro, of Suffolk and Harriet H. Woolf, of
Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Klema Perry, of Denton, Texas; two brothers,
Aaron Deskins, of Muskegon, Mich. and Darvis Deskins, of Marble Falls,
Texas; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
No memorial services will be scheduled.
