Hazel Whelimenia Ervin, of Columbia, died July 23, 2008, of a stroke, at Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital. She was 73.

Born Aug. 23, 1934, in Baltimore, to Jessie Hudnall, she graduated from Douglas High School, in Baltimore.

She married Lawrence A. Ervin Sr. in 1954.

Mrs. Ervin worked as a budget analyst for The National Guard Bureau, in Washington, D.C., for 20 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Lawrence A. Ervin Sr., who died in 1992; and a daughter, Pamela L. Amaro.

Mrs. Ervin is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law, Lawrence A. Jr. and Michele Ervin, of Cerritos, Calif. and Cheryl L. Amaro, of Ellicott City; a daughter and a son-in-law, Kelly S. Ervin, of Laurel and Robert Amaro, of Ellicott City; three grandchildren, Cristina M. Amaro, of Ellicott City, Lawrence A. Ervin III, of Cerritos and Christopher T. Ervin, of Cerritos; a great-grandchild, Rosana M. Amaro, of Ellicott City; a close friend, Joseph Selby, of Baltimore; as well as other relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held July 30, 2008, at St. John Baptist Church, in Columbia.

Interment was private.
