Doris E. Roberts

Doris "Billie" Elizabeth Roberts, of Selbyville, Del. and Laurel, died July 29, 2008, at Peninsula General Hospital in Salisbury. She was 82.

Born July 27, 1926, in Phoebus, Va., now an incorporated part of Hampton, Va., to Frank and Ruby Lynn Trimmer, she graduated from McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C., in 1943.

She married Earl V. Roberts in 1946.

Mrs. Roberts worked as a receptionist for 20 years for Dr. Paul T. Noone, in Rockville. She retired in the 1980s.

Family members recall that she loved to dance and was a dancer for the United Service Organizations during World War II. During that time, she performed in shows for troops at Fort Meade and Fort Myer, Va. She also was a member of a dance troop at the Villages of Florida.

In addition, she collected elephant ceramic figurines, enjoyed doing oil paintings, drawing caricatures, embroidery, crabbing and boating, as well as playing golf.

Mrs. Roberts was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Earl V. Roberts, who died in July 2008.

She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Rick Roberts, of Prescott, Ariz., Jim and Kathy Roberts, of Woodstock, John and Olga Roberts, of La Plata and Jerry and Kathy Roberts, of Laurel; two sisters, Mary Moyer, of Earlysville, Va., and Jeannie Shirley, of Florida; 13 grandchildren, Jennifer Funicello, Tony Roberts, Bridget Roberts Walker, Lisa Hartman, Kenny Roberts, Daniel Roberts, Stephen Roberts, Ashley Roberts, Derek Roberts, Craig Roberts, Ryan Roberts, John Roberts and Tom Roberts; and seven great-grandchildren, Delilah Walker, Tyler Roberts, Sofia Roberts, Leo Walker, Riley Hartman, Delaney Hartman and Makayla Roberts.

A Mass of Christian burial was said Aug. 2, 2008, at St. John Catholic Church, Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, Columbia.

Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring.
