Amil S. Garrison
Amil Stanley Garrison, of Columbia, died July 26, 2008, of cancer, at Howard County General Hospital. He was 47.
Born Dec. 8, 1960, in Manhattan, Kan., to W.G. Garrison Jr. and Ann Garrison, he graduated from Liberty-Eylau High School in Texarkana, Texas, in 1979.
That same year, Mr. Garrison enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Hawaii for six years. He was discharged in 1985.
Mr. Garrison worked in the commercial and residential landscape business for The Greenery Services, in Columbia, for two years. During that time, he took care of spreading mulch, unloading stone, completing yardwork and other duties.
For the last two years, he was employed by the Oakland Mills Interfaith Center in Columbia, first as a member of the facility maintenance staff for a year, then as an assistant facility maintenance manager for the past year.
Family members recall that he had numerous friends, whose lives he touched deeply with his subtle sense of humor and insightfulness. He is also remembered for his keen observations about people and events.
He was predeceased his father, W.G. Garrison Jr.
Mr. Garrison is survived by his mother, Ann Garrison, of Texarkana; a sister, Anita Garrison, of Hawaii; and a brother, Daylon Garrison, of Texas.
Memorial services were held July 29, 2008, at Oakland Mills Interfaith Center.
