James A. Graf

James Alan "Jim" Graf, of Columbia, died Aug. 3, 2008, of natural causes, at his residence. He was 64.

Born Dec. 14, 1943, in Rockford, Ill., to Frank E. Jr. and Marilyn Ransone Graf, he graduated from Mount Morris High School in Mount Morris, Ill., in 1961.

Mr. Graf enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1960s and was based at Fort Meade where he was involved in military intelligence. He was discharged in 1967.

He married Sallie Hansford in 1965. The marriage ended in divorce in 1980.

He worked as a systems analyst for the Department of Defense and the National Security Agency for 32 years. He retired in 1996.

Mr. Graf was predeceased by his parents, Frank E. Jr. and Marilyn Ransome Graf.

He is survived by a daughter, Bette L. Kennard, of Columbia; a son, James A. Graf II, of Columbia; a brother, David Graf, of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a niece, Shannon Hatfield, of Fort Pierce; and a grandson, Brandon Kennard, of Columbia.

Funeral services and interment will be held at a later date in Mount Morris.
